Donald Ray McCune, 75, of Salem, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, March 13, 2013.
He was born in Roanoke, a son of the late Fredrick Marshall McCune and Bessie Virginia Fout McCune. Ray proudly and honorably served his country in the US Navy from 1955 thru 1959, retired from Lionberger Construction Company where he served as a senior vice president, and was a member of the Salem Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Wesley and Sydney McCune, and by his aunt and uncle, Glenna and Jesse Fout.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Judy Hawley McCune; a son, Barry McCune and his wife Crystal; daughter Bonnie Crotts and her husband Bugsy; five grandchildren, Jamie Crotts and his wife Melissa, Kristen Morris and her husband Nick, Karl Crotts and his wife Sara, Courtney McCune and Bryan Parker; four great-grandchildren and one on the way, Skylar, Hailey, Camden, Azura and Baby Morris; a sister, Virginia Yates; a brother, James McCune, and his loving dog, Bridgette.
He will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, granddaddy and great-granddaddy.
A funeral service to celebrate Rays life will be held at 2PM, Saturday, March 16, 2013 at the Chapel of John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home, Salem. The Rev. Everett Kier will officiate. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8PM Friday at the funeral home.
