Donald Edward (Don) Manspile, Sr., 63, of Elliston, went home to be with his Lord and family on Monday, June 3, 2013. He was born on October 15, 1949 in Roanoke to the late James Lloyd and Cellus Tiny Manspile. He was retired from his employment as an Independent Diesel Mechanic after 46 years of service, as he started turning wrenches at the early age of 17. He will be remembered mostly as a loving father, grandfather, and friend to many. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Lloyd Manspile, Sr., and his brother-in-law, Albert Franklin Jennings, Sr. Family remaining to cherish his memory include the mother of his children, Mary Margaret Manspile; sons, Glenn Manspile and wife, Jennifer, Donald (Don) Manspile, Jr. and wife, Deirdre; daughter, Melinda Bean; son from a previous relationship, Jeremiah Nelson; brothers, Ronnie (Bubbles) Manspile, and Bill Manspile and wife, Sherry; sisters, Joan Jennings, Judy Christenson, and Susie Manspile; nine grandchildren; best friend and loving dog, Kitty. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening, June 6, 2013, from 6 until 8 p.m. at John M. Oakey & Son funeral home in Salem. A funeral service will be conducted on Friday, June 7, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Greenhill Church of the Brethren in Salem. Interment will follow at the Manspile-Clevenger Family Cemetery in Salem. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Greenhill Church of the Brethren, C/O Donald E. Manspile funeral fund, 2699 Harborwood Road, Salem, VA 24153 to assist with funeral expenses.
