Diane Elaine Hancock

Diane Elaine Hancock 69, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, January 25, 2017, at Richfield Nursing Home in Salem. Diane was born in Craig County, VA, on April 1, 1947, to the late John Max Hancock, Sr. and Lucille Brogan Hancock. In addition to her parents Diane was preceded in death by a sister, Anne Hancock. Diane attended the VA School for the Deaf and Blind in Staunton, VA. She was retired from Maid Best Uniforms. For many years, Diane enjoyed weekly activities with the Roanoke Valley Club for the Deaf. When Dianes parents became disabled, she and her sister Jane, with weekly assistance from their brother, lived together until Diane had to go into the nursing home one year ago. Diane will be deeply missed by her sister Jane. Diane is survived by her brother, John Max Hancock, Jr. and wife, Sandra, of Vinton, twin sister, Peggy H. Carter, and husband, Billy, of Avon, IN, sisters: Jane Hancock and Maxine H. Hall, both of Salem. Nephews: John R. Hancock, Harrisonburg, VA, Lewis Grubbs and wife Cindy, Kathleen, GA, Joseph Grubbs, Salem. Nieces: Tiffany H. McCormack and husband, Rusty, Caroline H. Williams and husband, Josh, both of Vinton, Kristi C. Scherler and husband, Rob, Akron, OH, Julie C. Compton and husband, John, Brownsburg, IN. Diane is also survived by seven great-nephews and four great-nieces. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, January 27, 2017, at John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem.
