Debra Hart Clapp

Dr. Debra Hart Clapp, aged 70, passed away on Monday, July 13, 2026.

She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. From humble beginnings in Bluefield, West Virginia, Debra knew from a young age that she wanted to be a physician. After graduating from the University of Virginia, she went on to study medicine at Duke University, followed by a residency at The Ohio State University. Over her 40-year career as a dedicated and energetic OB/GYN, Debra provided medical care and delivered babies for thousands of women and families in the Roanoke Valley. On top of her family and fulfilling career, she was a passionate equestrian, a lover of animals, an inspiring optimist, and a lifelong learner. Her earliest life dream was having horses. Together with her husband, she built a beautiful farm, providing wonderful lives for dozens of horses and dogs. She lived as full a life as anyone could hope to live.

She is survived by her husband, Robert, her children, Rebecca and David, her siblings, Richard and Frances, and two grandsons, Adrian and Oliver.

Her humor, warmth, wisdom, kindness, and enthusiasm will be dearly missed by family, friends, patients, and colleagues.

A memorial service will be held at The Hotel Roanoke AB Ballroom from 11 AM to 3 PM on Saturday, July 25, 22026 with a short ceremony taking place at 12 noon.
