Debra Jayne Abbott - Van Meter

Debra Jayne Abbott-Van Meter, 71, went to be with the Lord and is forever reunited with her husband, Greg and her father, Roy. She was born on October 25, 1952, in Roanoke, Virginia, to the late Roy Edgar and Ina Corum Abbott.

Debbie never knew a stranger. She was a social butterfly who loved meeting new people and would talk to anybody and everybody. What made her even more special is that she was a good listener; she gave good advice and friends and family genuinely felt heard when talking with her. The holidays late in the year were her favorite: Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Debbie would dress up for Halloween and give candy to all of the trick-or-treaters who came by and would compliment each one on their costume. She made Thanksgiving and Christmas special every year for her family. She had a special relationship with her sister, Shelley; they were the best of friends and always together. In her younger years, Debbie greatly enjoyed being outdoors and camping. She even worked briefly in construction before finding her niche in meeting insurance needs for families. Above all, she adored her two sons and loved being a mom. Debbie was a good mom who was there everyday for her boys. Debbie greatly missed her late husband and struggled with the loneliness of his absence; however, her sons were always close by to keep her company, to play cards and watch television together. Always a compassionate and caring person, even in her final hours, Debbie was an organ and tissue donor, giving of herself in death so that others might live.

Those left to cherish her memory are her sons, Chris Abbott and Clint Van Meter; grandson, Lucas; sister, Ann Michele "Shelly" Abbott, as well as her grandpuppy, Ms. Pickles.
