David Kipley (Kip) Swindell, 53, of Salem, VA, passed away on Friday October 11, 2013, at the Salem Veterans Hospital after a lengthy illness. Mr. Swindell was born July 8, 1960, in El Paso, TX. His mother is Barbara Chittenden Swindell of Naylor, GA, and his father and step-mother are Paul and Mary Swindell of Valdosta, GA. Mr. Swindell was preceded in death by a brother, Timothy Shane Swindell; his maternal grandparents, Annella Wilkes Chittenden and Victor Eugene Chittenden; and his paternal grandfather, Bernard Swindell. Mr. Swindell was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served both active duty and in the Naval Reserve, and a licensed electrician. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and his cats. He was an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Thanks for being in my life- Ellen Moyer. Along with his parents survivors include, significant other, Ellen Moyer, of Salem, VA, sister and brother-in-law, Paula and Larry Sheffield, of Naylor, GA, grandmother, Adelaide Swindell, of Athens, GA, aunts and uncles, Joyce and Grayson Powell, of Valdosta, GA; Gay and bobby Dollar, of Abbingdon, VA; Leon and Barbara Chittenden, of New Johnson, TN; Tommy and Loralee Swindell of Athens, GA; Danford and Beth swindell, of Kettering, OH, neice and nephew-in-law April and Chris Weeks, of Gainesville, FL. Perhis wishes, Mr. Swindell will be cremated and a memorial service will be held in Valdosta, GA, at a later date.
