David (Dave) S. Roberson of Salem, VA passed away on Tuesday, November 9, 2010. He was born on October 16, 1946 in Norton, VA and was preceded in death by his parents, Irene and Shelton Roberson. David was a devoted and loving husband, father, and Dapaw. He is survived by his childhood sweetheart and wife of 42 years, Dianne and their son, Darren and his wife, Robin Roberson of Roanoke, VA; and his favorite grandson, Max Roberson of Roanoke, VA. Also surviving are his sisters, Donna Etheridge and Judy Roberson both from North Carolina. He retired from the Virginia Department of Health as an environmental specialist in 2008 after 38 years of service to the State of Virginia. Dave had a zest for life and in his younger days enjoyed coaching recreational football and basketball for the city of Salem Rec. Dept. In recent years, his passion for sports was redirected to the game of golf and he spent many days on the course at Blue Hills and also at Holden Beach, NC enjoying the game but always trying to improve his score. He was also a loyal UVA fan through the good times and the bad times. And, no one could host a better Kentucky Derby Party. His laughter lit up a room. He was a member of the Roanoke Elks Lodge BPOE #197 for 31 years and had many dear and close friends through the lodge. Dave was a very special person and will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to make his acquaintance. The family will receive friends on Friday, November 12, 2010 from 5 to 7 pm at John M. Oakey and Son, Salem. At 7 pm a memorial service will be conducted to celebrate Daves life in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Jack Lowe officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Roanoke Elk Lodge # 197 BPOE Thanksgiving Food Drive or the Angel Christmas Tree. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.johnmoakey.com.
