David Lynn Layne

David Lynn Layne, 55, of Lynchburg, and formerly of Salem, Virginia, died suddenly on Wednesday, March 9, 2016 while working on assignment in San Francisco, California. David was born in Roanoke, Virginia, the son of Aileen Layne and the late Cabel Layne. He was employed as a computer engineer at Harris Corporation in Lynchburg, Virginia, and prior to that, he worked for many years as a computer engineer at General Electric in Salem. He was a proud graduate of Virginia Tech, earning his Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering and Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering. He was a lifelong supporter of Virginia Tech and big fan of its football team. Most importantly, David was a loyal friend and loving family member. He is survived by his mother, Aileen Layne, his sister, Linda Mallory and husband John; a very special uncle, Thomas Beason; his two nieces, Melissa Mallory and Meredith Kozera, and his nephew Matthew Mallory. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening, March 15, 2016 from 6 until 8PM at John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home, Salem. A graveside service to honor the life of David Lynn Layne, will take place on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at 11AM at Sherwood Memorial Park, Salem.
