Darrell Raymond Dalton Sr.

Darrell R. Dalton, Sr., 70, formerly of Pulaski, VA, passed away on Monday, October 24, 2011. He was a US Navy veteran having served on the USS Essex Aircraft Carrier from 1960 to 1966. He later retired from the Radford Army Ammunition Plant in 1999 after 33 years of faithful service. Darrell was a faithful, loving, and devoted husband, father, and grandfather who will surely be missed. Preceding him in death were his parents, Earnest and Elsie Dalton; brothers, Bernard Dalton, Billy Dalton, Jimmy Dalton, and Danny Dalton; and sister, Ruth Prince. His surviving family includes his wife, Joanne Dalton; sons, Darrell Dalton, Jr. and wife, Karina, of Richmond, and Ricky Dalton and wife, Suzie, of Roanoke; daughters, Karen Tuggle and husband, Gerald, of Greensboro, NC, Darlene West and husband, Steve, of Lake Anna, VA, and Tamie Handwerk and husband, Ron, of Baltimore, MD; brothers, Roger Dalton and wife, Patty, and Randall Dalton and wife, Sandra, all of WV; 9 grandchildren, 1 great-grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews. A period of visitation will be held on Thursday, October 27, 2011 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 28, 2011 at 2 p.m. in the funeral homes chapel. Entombment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park. The Pastor Brad Lewis will officiate.
