Daniel Winfree Bushnell, 69, a lifelong resident of Salem, passed away Monday, March 11, 2013. He was born March 14, 1943, the only child of the late William Terrell Bushnell and Edna Mills Bushnell. Dan was a proud graduate of Andrew Lewis High School, class of 1961. He was employed by Clifton Floor and Tile for over 40 years and was known throughout Virginia for his skills with hardwood floors. He enjoyed his co-workers, some of whom became his best friends. Dan also enjoyed stopping by Hammerhead Hardware to socialize with his pals there, and spending time with his friends and good neighbors. He enjoyed riding in his Mustang, feeding birds and squirrels in his backyard, and playing with his beloved cat, Gager. Dan is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Norma Scaggs Bushnell, and his two daughters, Robin Bushnell of Salem and Angela Peery and her husband Tim of Beaufort, SC. He will also be lovingly remembered by his mother-in-law Clara Scaggs of Salem, VA; sister-in-law Maggie Brown, of Raleigh, NC; aunts Bootie Mills and Dilys St. Clair of Salem; his dear cousins and their spouses; and other family members. The family would like to thank the nurses at Lewis-Gale Hospital and Salem Health and Rehabilitation Center, who took loving care of him during his illness the last two months. A service celebrating Dannys life will be held at 7PM, Friday, March 15, 2013 at the First Christian Church in Salem. The Rev. Dan Netting will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his honor to the First Christian Church, 712 Front Ave. Salem, VA 24153 or to the Salem Animal Shelter, 1301 Indiana St. Salem, VA 24153.
