Daniel Adrian Bryan, 85, of Roanoke, Virginia, passed away on Sunday, March 23, 2025. Born in Botetourt, Virginia, he was the son of the late Robert Burhman Bryan and Pauline White Bryan. Daniel was raised alongside his five siblings on the family farm, where he learned the values of hard work, self-reliance, and Christian faith.
Daniel served in the United States Air Force before graduating from Roanoke College in 1970. He worked as a purchasing manager for Fleetwood Mobile Homes in Rocky Mount, but he was always involved in many side projects. Among these was obtaining his private pilot's license and building a runway on the family farm.
When he wasn't working, Daniel could be found playing bluegrass fiddle, a skill he learned by ear. Music was his true passion, and he found his greatest joy playing heartfelt, sad country songs with the bands he accompanied throughout the years. His wise counsel, wry humor, and humble nature will be forever missed by his family.
Daniel was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Maritta Crotts Bryan; and his brothers Robert, Stanley, Beverly, and Donald ("Jake") Bryan. He is survived by his sister, Carole Bryan Steiner; daughters Laura (James) Jordan and Ann (Eric) Sollinger; son Mark Bryan; grandson Joshua Swain; and granddaughter Katherine Sollinger.
Arrangements have been entrusted to John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, March 29, at 2:00 p.m. at Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Daniel's memory to the Alzheimer's Association.
