Cynthia Horne Douglass, 56, of Madison Heights, VA, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 8, 2014. She was born in Salem, VA, daughter of Bobby and Jacquelyn Horne of Salem. She had been an area resident most of her life. She loved animals, nature, and being outdoors hiking, walking in the woods, and taking pictures. Photography was her passion, so she made it into a business. She enjoyed being a part of the Virginia Professional Photographers Association. An avid reader, she shared her love of books with her children, grandchildren, and her book club. She and her husband loved to travel together and go on digs with the Lynchburg Gem and Mineral Society. She loved working in her garden and preparing gourmet meals with the vegetables and herbs she proudly grew herself. She was a selfless person with a beautiful soul who touched many lives with her cheery disposition and zest for life. She was preceded in death by her mother, Jacquelyn Horne; and brother, Ronald Horne. Left behind to cherish her memories are her father, Bobby Horne; brother, David Horne; devoted husband, William Franklin Douglass; children, Jessica McKnight Dickerson, Michelle J. Douglass, Valerie McKnight, and W. Donald Douglass; 8 grandchildren she adored, Josh, K.J., Devin, Christopher, Gabbie, Aaron, Caleb, and Wyatt; 2 beloved pets, Zak and Scully; and many extended family members and friends. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at 11 a.m. in the John M. Oakey & Son Chapel in Salem with Rev. Dawn Taylor officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
