Cynthia (Cindy) Dawn Conner, 41, of Salem, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 21, 2011. She was an honor graduate of University of Findlays natural sciences division and went on to work for Abbott Laboratories in Altavista. She had a tender compassion for animals and lovingly worked with S.A.F.E. Animal Rescue, an organization dedicated to saving animals from euthanasia. Preceding her in death were her grandparents, Ralph and Margaret Miller; uncle, Frankie Miller; and aunt, Margaret Housman. Her surviving family includes her parents, Michael and Evelyn Conner; beloved pets, Little Girl, Oscar, and Jacob; sister, Lori Kangas and husband, Bill; brother, Troy Scott; stepbrothers, David Conner, Chris Conner, and Jeff Conner; aunt, Eva Dickerson; nephews, Teo Scott and Finn Scott; and other family members. A period of visitation will be held on Saturday, May 28, 2011 from 10 to 11 a.m. at Melrose Baptist Church in Roanoke. A service celebrating her life will then begin at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Brenda Rowe and the Rev. Larry Sprouse ministering. In lieu of flowers, donations in Cindys name may be made to Saint Francis of Assisi, the Roanoke Valley SPCA, or Melrose Baptist Church. The Conner family is being served by John M. Oakey & Son Funeral and Cremation Service in Salem, 540-389-5441.
