Cynthia (Cindy) June Callus, at the age of 67, went home to be with Jesus on December 21, 2023, at her home in Salem, VA. Cindy was born to Robert Egbert and Maxie Willis Humphrey on June 26, 1956, in Abingdon, VA. She is survived by her brothers: Robert Larry Humphrey (Pat), William Bill D. Humphrey (Margaret), and David Mert L. Humphrey (Rebecca), several nieces and nephews, and spiritually adopted daughter, Chelsey Zheng. Cindy was predeceased by her: husband Paul B. Callus, parents Robert Bob E. Humphrey and Maxie Willis Humphrey, mother-in-law June Edna Kay, and sister-in-law Linda V. Humphrey. Cindys journey through life started in Abingdon, VA. She was the youngest of four and considered to be the spoiled one by her brothers. The family relocated to Salem, VA in 1964. Cindy graduated from Glenvar High School in 1974 where she was better known as Prune. She attended Emmanuel College and Virginia Western Community College, spending most of her career as an office secretary. Cindy met her true love, Paul Brian Callus in Charleston, SC while his ship was in port and where Cindy happened to be vacationing. Paul (Pooh Bear) was from Emsworth, England, and served as an Engineering Artificer in the Royal Navy. They were married on December 27, 1980, in Salem, VA. Their life together ended tragically on May 25, 1982, when the HMS Coventry was bombed during the Falklands War. During Cindys lifetime, she was known to travel across the United States and abroad. She most recently spent 9 years teaching English to Chinese students. She made many friends while living in China. Her closest friend, whom she considered to be like a daughter, Chelsey Zheng was by her side when she passed. Anyone who knew Cindy never forgot her. She was a loving soul who enjoyed family, friends, card games, music, and tie-dye. Cindy was not shy about her faith and shared it with others at every opportunity. She was an active member of Christian Life International Church where she served in the Nursery and with the Awaken Student Ministries Youth Group. Cindy wasnt one to boast about what she did, but others can attest to her selflessness and caring heart. A Celebration of Cindys life will be held on Saturday, December 30, 2023, at 11 a.m. at Christian Life International Church, 1 CLI Way, Salem, VA 24153. Everyone is asked to wear comfortable clothing including Cindys favorite design, tie-dye! In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to the CLI building fund.
