Coy Daniel Shupe, Sr. was born to Price and Ruby Shupe in the back room of a little house on the side of a mountain in the small unincorporated community of Boissevain Virginia on April 30th, 1933. He was the eldest of 7 children with five sisters and one brother. After a simple upbringing, he proudly served in the navy, traveling up and down the coast of North & South America aboard the DE-532 USS Tweedy, where he met a young nurse from Massachusetts. She was the love of his life, and they were married on Thanksgiving Day in 1955. They quickly started a family and were blessed with four children and a small house in Somerset Massachusetts. He found work as a machinist in the nearby city of Providence, R.I., until moving to the small community of New Castle Virginia in 1972. He worked as a machinist at Electro-tech, located in Blacksburg Virginia, and there he would retire after many faithful years of service.
On April 15th, 1980, Coy Daniel Shupe, Sr. would become known as Grampy. An event marked by the birth of his first granddaughter. With a total of ten grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, and two more on the way. The role of Grampy would be his greatest achievement.
Coy Daniel Shupe, Sr. left us to be with the Lord on December 24th, 2022. (Christmas Eve). I can think of no better time to meet our Savior than the eve of the day we celebrate His birth. I know Coy ran through the gates of heaven with open arms and embraced the Lord around His neck. I know hes telling stories and laughing with his mother and father, and all those who passed before him. And there, hell be waiting, patiently, with a hug for each of us. He will be greatly missed.
