Cordie Mae Shealor Nutter, age 92, of Salem, Va. went to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 10, 2019. She was born on Thursday, August 12, 1926, to the late Olen Lee Shealor and Florence Lillian Fagg Shealor. Mrs. Nutter was born and raised in Blacksburg, Va. and attended Blacksburg High School. Mr. & Mrs. Nutter were married in Cambria, Va., and later made Salem their home. Cordie had a love for reading and she clipped numerous newspaper articles; she also enjoyed cooking and was known for the cakes and pies that she baked. Her favorite color was violet and purple. Cordie was very patriotic; she also loved gospel music and in adulthood taught weekday church school at College Lutheran Church in Salem. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Jesse Robert Nutter; brothers, Floyd Shealor, Kaywood Shealor, Marshall Shealor, and Stanley Shealor; one sister, Martha Patricia Boley; two grandsons and one great-granddaughter. She is survived by one daughter, Lois Nutter Semones, and husband, Darell; sons, Kenneth Robert Nutter and wife, Alice and Gary Earnest Nutter and wife, Sue; 7 granddaughters (and their husbands), Lisa Cassell, Lori Moran, Holly Foutz, Jodie Foltz, Tammy Turpin, Julie Hagy, Tonya Blackwell; great-grandchildren, Jessica Moran, Emily Moran, Meredith Moran, Gavin Granger, Jaime Cassell, Carly Cassell, Kaylee Hagy, Delilah Mae Foltz, Avery Foltz, Jaxon Blackwell, and Isabella Giaquinto; great-great-grandson, Cooper Lee Stump; sisters, Edith Shealor Hurt and Norma Jeanette Shelor; sister-in-law, Peggy Shealor; and many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 oclock a.m. on Monday, January 14, 2019, at College Lutheran Church in Salem, Va. with Rev. David Drebes, Rev. Kathleen Miko, Rev. James L. Armentrout officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Roanoke, Va. Friends may visit with the family at the church from 10 oclock a.m. until the service hour. The family would like to thank everyone involved in Mrs. Nutters care especially the staff at Brandon Oaks Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, and the staff of Good Samaritan Hospice. You are welcome to send flowers, but the family asks that you make memorial contributions to a charity of your choice in honor of Mrs. Nutter.
