Connie "CJ" Jean Hawks Dunbar

Connie “CJ” Jean Hawks Dunbar, 72, of Roanoke, Va., passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 16, 2026. Born in West Virginia on June 30, 1953, she is preceded in death by her father, Roosevelt Cloyd Hawks; maternal grandparents, Lonnie and Carlie Pigg; and paternal grandparents, Cloyd and Effie Hawks.

CJ was a proud veteran of the United States Army Reserves, during which she served as a financial specialist. She enjoyed gardening and growing fresh flowers and vegetables to share. CJ enjoyed photography. She had a talent for capturing special memories in photographs. She enjoyed sewing and curling up quietly reading.

Those remaining to cherish her memory are her mother, Norma “Jean” Pigg Hawks; sister, Cheryl Lynn Hawks Cobb and husband, Hugh; brother, Robert Daniel Hawks; nieces and nephews, Angela Convery and husband, Jason, Travis Cobb and wife, Kelly, and Danielle Carico and husband, Dustin; as well as special friends, Ashley Peters, Amber Reed and Kaliyse Harris.

The family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to the nursing staff of Richfield Health and Rehabilitation Center for the compassionate care and loving kindness extended to both CJ and their family.

CJ has thoughtfully donated her body to science to educate future scholars; thus, at this time, no services are planned.
