Clarence Eugene Baker (Popeye), 77, of Roanoke, passed away on Sunday, March 26, 2017. He was a veteran having served in the U.S. Navy, and was a retired electrician. In his younger days, he loved working on old vehicles. His church membership was held at First Christian Church in Salem. Preceding him in death were his parents, Percy Edward and Roxie Ruth Crawford Baker; wife, Carolyn Slough Baker; and siblings, Robert, Sue, Nancy, Ceil, infant sister Sylvia Fay, Mary, James, Tom, and Curley. His surviving family includes his twin sister, Colleen Baker Sarver and husband, Virgil; mother-in-law, Margaret Allen; daughter, Belinda Baker Hale and husband, Donnie; granddaughter, Morgan; several nieces and nephews; special church friend, Lewis Armistead, who took Clarence to Salem football games and church; and his dancing dog, Napoleon. The family extends special thanks to the Virginia Veterans Care Center 1 East staff for his care. A period of visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 29, 2017, in the John M. Oakey & Son Chapel in Salem. A funeral service will then be conducted at 11 a.m. with Rev. Dan Netting officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Sherwood Memorial Park.
