Charlotte Wilhelmina McDaniel, of Salem, Va., passed away peacefully on May 27, 2026, under the compassionate care of the Good Samaritan Hospice House in Roanoke. She was 81 years old.
Born on October 27, 1944, in Roanoke, Va., Charlotte spent her life in Salem. She was preceded in death by her husband, John B. McDaniel.
Charlotte dedicated many years of her career to General Electric, where she held several positions and took great pride in doing each job to the very best of her ability.
Charlotte found joy in music and entertainment, with a special love for classic Western films and the music of Queen. She was also a talented guitarist and took great pride in her playing, continuing to impress others with her skill throughout her life.
A true animal lover, Charlotte cherished her dogs over the years and was known for her kindness to every animal she met. Neighborhood dogs would happily make their way to her door, knowing they would be welcomed with treats and affection.
Charlotte had a warm and gentle spirit that drew people to her. During her time at Good Samaritan Hospice House, her kind nature left a lasting impression on the staff who cared for her. Many of them became dear friends-testament to how truly easy she was to love.
She is survived by her sister, Janice Sheppard of Roanoke, Va.; her sisters-in-law, Missy Greer of Salem, Va., and Jeri Greer of Thaxton, Va.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews; and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. She also leaves behind her "adopted son," Jason Bailey (Emily Bailey) of Botetourt, Va.
A service to celebrate Charlotte's life will be held on Friday, June 12, 2026, at the John M. Oakey & Son Chapel in Salem. Family and friends are invited to gather at 5:30 p.m., with a memorial service beginning at 6:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Good Samaritan Hospice House in Roanoke, in appreciation for the exceptional care and compassion they provided. Online condolences may be expressed at www.johnmoakey.com.
Charlotte's kindness, love for animals, and joyful spirit will be remembered always.
