Charley McDanald Turner, 86, of Va., passed away surrounded by the love of his family on September 17, 2026.

Charley was born in Roanoke, VA., to Charley and Mary Turner. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Frances Turman Turner, who passed away in May 2021. Their life together was one of love, family, and devotion, and Frances remained an important part of Charley's heart throughout his life.

Charley was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his children, Charley & Donna; Tracy & John; Sherry & Doug; and Trevor & Lena. He is also survived by his sister, Emily Turner; grandchildren Charles David, Justin, Jacob, Emily, Jake, Elizabeth, Ryan, Mitchell and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one great-grandchild.

Charley worked as a draftsman. He was also a gifted artist who loved to paint out in nature. He loved golf and enjoyed the time spent on the course with his friends.

Charley was devoted to his family. His children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren brought him happiness. He will be remembered for his creativity, his love of golf, his dedication to those he loved, and the many ways he touched the lives of his family and friends. He will be forever in our hearts.

Charley was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His faith was an important part of his life and provided him with strength, purpose, and hope.

The family extends a special and heartfelt thank you to Charley and Donna for the loving care, kindness, and devotion they gave Charley during his final days.

The family will welcome friends for a period of visitation on Thursday, September 24, 2026, from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home, 305 Roanoke Blvd. Salem VA.

The interment will be held privately with his family at Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem.
