Charles Irving Wassum, 77, of Salem, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 27, 2012. He was a manager of mechanical drafting at General Electric. His church membership was held at Salem Baptist Church. Preceding him in death were his parents, Lynn and India Wassum. His surviving family includes his wife of 55 years, Norma Wassum; daughters, Vanessa McArthur and husband, Andy, and Angela Emery and husband, Jeff; grandchildren, Jordan McArthur and wife, Katy, Amy McArthur, Jacob Emery, and Joseph Emery; siblings, Bill Wassum and wife, Marie, Dick Wassum and wife, Eleanor, Ed Wassum and wife, Becky, and Saundra Wassum; sisters-in-law, Judy Gresham and husband, Jim, Twila Turner and husband, Glenn, and Cindy Manning and husband, Don; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family sends a special thanks to Salem Terrace at Herrogate, Our Lady of the Valley, and Good Samaritan Hospice for their wonderful care and service. A period of visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 30, 2012 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 31, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Salem Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park. Rev. Everett Kier will officiate.
