Charles Roscoe Snellings

Charles Roscoe Snellings, 91, United States Air Force Retired, passed away on Thursday, April 18, 2024. Born on June 27, 1932, in Roanoke, Virginia, Chuck grew up in Roanoke before enlisting in the United States Army in August, 1949. He served in the Korean Conflict from August 1950 to January 1952 and was discharged from the Army in August of that year. After a short civilian break, Chuck reentered military service in May of 1954, this time in the United States Air Force. He retired in August 1971, having served 20 years and obtaining the rank of Master Sargeant. Chuck proudly served his country overseas in Korea, Japan, Germany, Taiwan, and Greenland, and received three Air Force Commendations and numerous other medals and awards. Following his military service, he was employed at the Veterans Administration Medical Center for 27 years. Working first as a medical admission officer and ending as a computer analyst. Chuck was preceded in death by his first wife, Peggy Johnston Snellings, son, Eric David Snellings; grandson, Bryce Wesley Patton; his parents, William E. and Mabel Neighbors Snellings, as well as ten siblings. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 37 years, Christina Kardaras Snellings; daughter, Mary (Lynne) Snellings Patton; daughter-in-law, Monica Snellings, grandsons, Fernando Snellings and Joshua Patton; granddaughter, Maria Snellings; brother, Thomas E. Snellings, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and their children. The family will welcome friends for a time of visitation on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Salem Baptist Church, 103 N. Broad Street, Salem; funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Heath Rickmond officiating. Interment with full military honors will be held privately.
