Roanoke, Va.
Charles Edward Dick, 79 of Roanoke, went home to be with the Lord and was reunited with loved ones gone before on Monday, November 17, 2025, at his home.
Charles was born on July 25, 1946, in Danville, Va., son of the late Horace Paisley "HP" Dick and Jessie Day "Boots" Plott Dick . In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 44 years, Sandra Lee (Keen) Dick; son, Curtis Graham Perkins; daughter, Jerri Perkins Dishman; and a granddaughter, Taylor Sutphin.
Family remaining to cherish his memory includes his children, Sandi Smith (Greg Parrack), Jeff Dick ( Mary Shaw), Terri Echols (Timmy), Lendy Gay (Ron), and Scott Perkins; grandchildren, Brandon, Adam, Caitlyn, Travis, Tamra, Ashley, Sean, Todd, Heather, Cara, Brandy, Alex, Brittany, Zoe, Bowen, and Daylen; sixteen great-grandchildren; and his brother, Wayne Dick and special sister in law, Mary P as well as Kim, and Brian, niece and nephew.
Charles proudly served his country in the United States Navy as an MP during the Vietnam war. A pressman by trade, he worked for the Roanoke Times for a period of 20 years prior to retiring, as well as the Danville Register and Bee. He was known for his love of guns and more importantly, gun safety. He recently was employed at Safeside Tactical of Roanoke as a weapons safety instructor.
Above all, Charles will be known best as "Dad" and "Granddad" to those who knew him best. A father of seven and grandfather of numerous, he loved his family more than life itself. "He was always present" according to his children. He never missed an event and would do anything to help you. He even taught his grandchildren how to maintain their vehicle maintenance and how to tie knots. His hunting and fishing trips with his son, Jeff was always more than just hunting and fishing. They were cherished memories in the making.
A celebration of Charles' life will be conducted on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at the Christ the King Presbyterian Church; 2335 Electric Rd, Roanoke, Va. at 2 p.m. Pastor John Pennylegion will officiate. A reception will follow the service at the church.
The family wishes to thank the staff; especially Erin, at Friendship Health and Rehab South, as well as Charles' loving neighbors, Ethan, Wayne, and Christina, for the love and special care given when it was most needed.
They would also wish to thank Zoe, Bowen, and Daylen, Charles' grandchildren, for the love and care they demonstrated and gave to their grandfather during his last days honoring his wishes and caring for him even when it was not easy.
