Carol Sarchenko

Carol Ann Higgins Sarchenko, 79, of Roanoke, Virginia, was called home one day before her 80th birthday, on January 9, 2026. Born in Buffalo, N.Y., to the late Raymond and Charlotte Juszkiewiez Higgins, she is also preceded in death by her husband, George Sarchenko.

Carol loved the beach. She loved the sunshine, salty air, crashing waves and the peace, relaxation and renewal that trips to the beach afforded her. Carol enjoyed baking for family and friends, playing card games with loved ones, and going dancing. The Godmothers Group at Parkway Church was near and dear to her heart and she cherished the friendships within it. Above all, Carol adored her family and will be greatly missed.

Those remaining to cherish her memory are her son, Bret Queen and wife, Angie; daughter, Cheryl Kendrick and husband, Roger; daughter, Debbie Queen and husband Gus Langley; nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; as well as a sister-in-law, Carol Kendall.

Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at 1:00 p.m., in the chapel of John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home, Salem, with Pastor Mike Lauridsen officiating. Interment immediately following in Sherwood Memorial Park, Salem.
