Carol Jean Roberts

Carol Jean Roberts, 80, of Rocky Mount, formerly of Roanoke, Salem, and Saltville peacefully went to be with her Lord on Sunday, July 25, 2021. Carol Jean was a graduate of Andrew Lewis High School. She attended The College of William and Mary and graduated from Roanoke College where she was a member of Delta Gamma. She was a schoolteacher with a beautiful singing voice. She sang with the choir at Virginia Heights Baptist Church in Roanoke, and later sang with and, for many years, directed the choir at Gogginsville United Methodist Church. Carol was a talented artist and pianist. She also owned her own home design business and was an architect working with several builders. She put her family first; Carol Jean was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, and adored her many pets. She was a kind and loving soul and rescued many animals both domesticated and wild, all of which quickly became part of her family. Carol Jean was preceded in death by her parents Oakley Jean and Lucille Brickey Holloway Hurt, and her beloved husband William C. (Bill) Roberts, Sr. Left to cherish her memory are her twin children, Sally Blair Roberts and William Carter Roberts Jr., Wills wife Dara Roberts, and Carols grandchildren, Kaiden Leigh Roberts and William Carter Roberts III. The Roberts family would like to extend our gratitude to one of her oldest and most beloved friends, Lou Bousman, and her husband, Junior, who took care of her full time once Sally no longer could. Thank you to many others involved in her care as well, including David Morris and Tara Meeks. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 31, 2021, at Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1 to 1:45 p.m. at John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home, Salem. Rev. Kathryn Budzik will be officiating.
