Carol B. Reno, 85, of Elliston, passed away Sunday, July 3, 2011. She was born in Elliston, a daughter of the late Charles R. Barnett and Essie Weddle Barnett, and as a Navy wife had also resided in Washington, DC, US Naval Station, Hawaii, Grove City, Ohio and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba before returning to the Elliston area in 1965. Prior to retirement, she completed a long and distinguished career that included employment by Republic Pictures, the National Security Agency, the United States Navy, the United States Probation Office, the United States Attorneys Office as well as paralegal duties with private law firms. She was a member of White Memorial Methodist Church in Shawsville, was an avid pet lover, loved to travel and was a gracious hostess when entertaining. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard H. Reno, USN(Ret.) who died in 2008. She is survived by a daughter, Terry Scott and her husband Morgan E. Scott, Jr.; a sister, Jane Carrico; two grandchildren, Nora Bryant and her husband Mark; Reno Scott and his wife Kim; three great-grandchildren, Caroline Bryant, Savannah Lucas and Landon Bryant. The family would like to take this opportunity to express their sincere thanks to the staff of Richfield Memory Care and Snyders Nursing Home for their kind and compassionate care. Funeral services will be held at 1PM, Wednesday, July 6, 2011 in the Chapel of John M. Oakey & Son, Salem. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8PM Tuesday, July 5th (this evening) at the funeral home.
