Carol Jean
Nunnally
Jul 24, 1944 — Sep 21, 2026
Salem
Carol Jean Jones Nunnally, 82, of Salem, Virginia, passed away peacefully on September 21, 2026. Born on July 24, 1944, Carol was a lifelong resident of Salem and devoted herself to her family, her church, her community, and the many people whose lives she touched.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin Moore Jones and Ethel Hockett Jones, and her beloved sister, Doris Jones Manning.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 60 years, William Bernard Nunnally Jr.; her son, William Bernard Nunnally III, and his wife, Shannon; her daughter, Kristen Carol Nunnally; and her beloved grandchildren, Adam Johnson Nunnally, Logan Taylor Nunnally, and Madeline Leigh Nunnally.
Carol was a proud alumna of Roanoke College and the Medical College of Virginia. She was a long-time and active member of First United Methodist Church in Salem, where her faith and friendships were an important part of her life. She was also a dedicated member of Delta Gamma Fraternity, serving in numerous leadership roles at both the local and national levels.
Carol had a gift for making people feel welcome and cared for. In addition to her many commitments, she spent time as a substitute teacher, where her love of people and education allowed her to continue giving to her community. She was happiest at home, whether that be in Salem, the beach house, or the lake house. And for those fortunate enough to sit at her table, her homemade delicacies from she-crab to pickles were legendary.
Above all, Carol was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She treasured her family and created a lifetime of memories that will be carried forward by those who knew and loved her. Her warmth, generosity, humor, and genuine care for others will be deeply missed.
Carol leaves behind a legacy of love that will live on in her family, her friends, and the many communities she served.
