Carol Lee (Durr) McAlister passed away peacefully on Monday, July 18, 2016 in Christiansburg, Va. Carol, born on Saturday, November 26, 1932 in Missouri, was the daughter of Elvin and Winona Durr of Kansas City. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Dr. Edward H. McAlister. Her surviving family includes four loving children from her first marriage and their families, W. Marten Czamanske, John D. Czamanske, Carol Lynne Czamanske Wright, and Thomas J. Czamanske. Prior to her residence in Virginia, Mrs. McAlister lived, worked, and raised her family for many years in New York State (Rochester and Corning). In addition to her work as a teacher, homemaker, and advocate for various causes, Carol owned and operated several successful retail stores. She was a strong proponent of historic preservation and served with distinction on the Preservation League of Western New York State and the Corn Hill Neighbors Association. Carol did not desire immediate funeral or memorial services; a small private remembrance with family will be held at the Eudora Cemetery in Kansas at an appropriate time. Should family or friends wish to make a memorial contribution, please consider either the Watkins Museum of History of Douglas County Kansas (1047 Massachusetts St. in Lawrence, Kan. 66044) or the Friends of the Montgomery-Floyd Regional Library (125 Sheltman Ave in Christiansburg, Va. 24073).
