Carlton Lincoln Hale, 85, of Salem, went to be with the Lord on Friday, November 19, 2010. He was a Veteran having served 2 years in the US Navy during WWII as a gunner on the USS Seer. Professionally, he worked for Magic City Ford Motors for 21 years. He was a member of Salem Baptist Church and enjoyed NASCAR, country music, and bluegrass music. Preceding him in death were his parents, William Carey and Nannie Witt Hale; and a sister, Clara Hale Lee. His surviving family includes his wife of 61 years, Lorene J. Hale of Salem; sons, Michael L. Hale of Salem and Donnie E. Hale and wife, Belinda, of Huddleston; granddaughter, Morgan T. Hale of Huddleston; siblings, Dorothy Hale Karnes of Bedford, Elizabeth Hale Everidge of Lynchburg, Pearl Hale Massie of Lynchburg, Carey Goggin Hale and wife, Jane, of Bedford, and Mary Ann Hale Wilson of Bedford; and several nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the workers and staff at Berkshire Health & Rehabilitation Center in Vinton for their compassionate care. A period of visitation will be held on Saturday, November 20, 2010 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. A graveside service will be held on Sunday, November 21, 2010 at 2 p.m. at the Quaker Baptist Church Cemetery in Bedford. The Rev. Everett Kier will officiate.
