Carl Jackson Stump Sr.

Carl Jackson Stump, Sr., age 84, of Salem, VA, passed away on Sunday, May 7, 2023, at his home. Born on August 20, 1938, to the late Oscar and Gertrude Stump. Carl had a profound impact on the lives of countless youth, having served over twenty years in various capacities especially the role of Scoutmaster with Troop 352. He was also a member of the Lions Club. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Barbara Stump; and his son, Carl CJ Stump, Jr. He is survived by his daughter, Salena Kay Stump Poff (Chris); granddaughters, TaMara Dillon, Tressa Poff, Corryn Jade Speed; and great-grandchildren, Blayne Dillion, Luka Lawhorn, Carter Earley, and Nova Earley; numerous nieces and nephews also survive. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 13, 2023, at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem, with Pastor Ben Lockhart officiating. Burial will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem. Friends may visit with the family from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, May 12, 2023, at the funeral home.
