Carl Woodrow Gordon, 89, of Vinton, passed away Saturday, February 19, 2011. He was born in Montgomery County, a son of the late Luther M. Gordon and Lula Moran Gordon and had been an area resident for most of his life. A US Navy veteran of WWII, he retired as Financial Secretary and Business Agent for Carpenters Local Union 319 following 32 years of service and was member of Huntington Court Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth Allen Gordon, who died in 1979, and by four brothers and three sisters. He is survived by his loving wife Juanita Perdue Gordon of Vinton; three sons, Donald D. Gordon (Nina) of Rocky Mount; Ronald C. Gordon (Paulette) of Thaxton; William M. Gordon (Tracy) of Collierstown; a step-daughter, Delores Leeds (Steve) of Yorktown; four brothers, J. Edward Gordon (Ruth) of Salem; Marvin Gordon (Joyce) of Salem; Frank Gordon (Christine) of Montvale; a sister, Bernice Smith (Stanley) of Roanoke; three grandchildren, Dian Dede Cook (Jeff) of Villamont; Donald Gordon, Jr. of Rocky Mount; Ronald Gordon, Jr. (Merenda) of Minnesota; as well as five great-grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held at 1PM, Tuesday, February 22, 2011 in the Chapel of John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home. The Rev. Brian Gordon will officiate. Burial will follow at Franklin Memorial Park.
