C. Grover Roop

C. Grover Roop, 89, of Salem, passed away on Thursday, October 12, 2017. Grover was born in Vinton, Va. to the late Clarence L. and Dillie S. Roop. He was the fifth of seven children. He was retired from General Electric Corp. as a Manager of Renewal Parts Operations after 33 years of service. Grover was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Salem, serving the church throughout the years. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and fishing in his spare time, but most of all he treasured the 65 years he shared with his wife, The Babe. His surviving family includes his wife, Charlotte H. Roop; sons, Barry L. Roop and his wife, Jena R., and Michael W. Roop and wife, Sandra G.; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; sister, Evelyn R. Scott; and many special friends he valued over the years. The family expresses their appreciation to the staff of the Richfield Retirement Community as well as Heartland Hospice for their care of Dad as he completed his journey in life. A period of visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, October 15, 2017, at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Monday, October 16, 2017, at the First United Methodist Church in Salem. Interment will immediately follow at Sherwood Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund at 125 West Main Street in Salem, Va. 24153.
