Bonnie Thompson Dixon, 68, of Salem, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 13, 2014. She enjoyed serving the church as a Sunday School teacher, choir member, and soloist. Her most recent church membership was held at Southside Baptist Church in Salem. Preceding her in death were her parents, Dentzel and Dolly Thompson; and an infant brother, David Thompson. Her surviving family includes her husband, Richard Dixon; children, Richard Dixon, Jr., Dawn Bravard, and Crystal Dixon; foster daughter, Kristine Hare; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sister, Trudy Wade. The family expresses a sincere thanks to the entire Carilion Hospice team for going over and above in their care for Bonnie. A period of visitation will be held on Thursday, April 17, 2014 from 4 to 5 p.m. in the John M. Oakey & Son Chapel. A memorial service will then begin at 5 p.m. with Pastor Tim York officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association at 1701 North Beauregard Street in Alexandria, VA 22311. Online condolences may be expressed at www.johnmoakey.com.
