Billy Glenn Miles

Billy Glenn Miles, 78, of Salem, Va., went to his heavenly home on Saturday, August 1, 2026.

Billy was a veteran having served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam. He graduated from Andrew Lewis High School and later received a bachelor's degree in history from Radford College. He taught World History at Salem High School, but was known mostly as a football coach at both Salem and Franklin County High Schools. His accomplishments included being inducted into both the Fort Scott Jr. College and Franklin County Athletic Halls of Fame. He held memberships in the Salem Sports Foundation and the Franklin County Athletic Football Club. In his spare time, he enjoyed golf, fishing, the Penguin Club, and the Roanoke Valley Shag Club.

Preceding him in death were his grandparents, Jack and Effie Miles; father, Billy Glenwood Miles; and stepmom, Louise Whiteneck Miles.

His surviving family includes his wife of 57 years, Linda Marie Miles; children, Chandlor Miles, Shaine Miles (Vanessa), and Travis Miles (Jenny); grandchildren, Landon Miles, Brock Miles, and Maggie Miles; and brother, Stephen Miles (Donna).

The family expresses sincere appreciation to the Salem and Franklin County communities for the well wishes, love, and support during this difficult and trying time. They are also very grateful for the Salem VA Medical Center.

A visitation will take place from 1 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, August 8, 2026, in the Salem Civic Center's community room. There will be no service.
