Betty Jane Winstead
Betty Jane Winstead, 79, of Salem, was called into Heaven by our Lord on Sunday, September 21, 2014.
She was born in Salem, a daughter of the late Oscar Preston Mowles and Glenna May McCray Mowles and had been an area resident all of her life. She was employed for many years as a merchandiser with the Home Shopping Network and retired from Church Court Day Care, a mission of the Roanoke First Church of God. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two infant children, Mark Allan Winstead and Patricia Diane Winstead, and by her brother, Ronald Wayne Mowles.
Betty was a loving mother and grandmother and was totally dedicated to her family. She is survived by her son, Tony Winstead and his wife Cindy; a sister, Joan Marie Lily; three granddaughters, Kayla Ann, Hannah Grace and Madison Mae Winstead; a special friend, Carl Murchison; her caregiver and friend, Jeannette Hayes, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2PM, Thursday, September 25, 2014 at the Roanoke First Church of God 5008 Hildebrand Rd. NW, Roanoke. Burial will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8PM, Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her honor to the Salem Animal Shelter, 1301 Indiana St. Salem, VA 24153 or to Carilion Clinic Childrens Hospital 1906 Belleview Ave. SE Roanoke, VA 24014.
