Betty Hill Routh

Mrs. Betty H. Routh, 78, of Salem, passed away Friday, July 28, 2017. She was the wife of Douglas L. Routh. Betty was born April 16, 1939, in Fries, VA, a daughter of the late George U. Hill and Pauline R. Hill. She was a graduate of Radford University and went on from there to teach at John Battle High School, Independence High School, and Hillsville High School. Betty also worked for the last 25 years with her husband Doug at the Nationwide Insurance office in Roanoke, Virginia. She loved gardening. Betty was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church in Salem where she also taught Sunday school for many years with her sister. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Routh was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Bradshaw and a brother, Thomas Paul Hill. Betty is survived by her husband, Douglas L. Routh; two sons, Gregory D. Routh and Gary L. Routh of Salem, VA; sisters, Joan Machara of Lexington, K.Y., Marilyn Brewer of Salem, Ruth Kreh and husband, Don, of Roanoke County, VA; brothers George Hill and wife, Lois, of Cumberland City, TN, and Robin Hill and wife, Anna, of Fries, VA; and numerous loving nieces and nephews.
