Betty Marie Lester

Betty Marie Layne Lester, of Salem, passed away Wednesday, July 13, 2016. Betty was the daughter of the late Curtis H. and Bessie B. Layne, and the widow of Aubrey A. Lester, Jr. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, John D., Charles L. and Richard C. Layne, and two sisters, Alice L. Pratt and Mary Cholewa. She is survived by two daughters, Sammye L. Purdy and Mary Sue Lester; a son, Aubrey A. Lester, III and wife, Janet; a sister, Helen Hutto; her sister-in-law, Geneva Layne; five grandchildren, Lindsey Caldwell Brunt and husband, Eric, Ashley Purdy Stamper and husband, Thomas, Adrienne Lester, Erica Lester and Brenton Lester; and a great-grandchild, Avery Brunt. The family would like to extend a special thank you to her loving caregivers. The family will receive friends beginning at 10AM, Saturday, July 16, 2016 at the Chapel of the First United Methodist Church, Salem. A funeral service will follow beginning at 11 AM. with the Rev.
