Betty Jean Markle Holbrook, 80 of Salem, VA passed away on August 7, 2021, in Salem, Virginia. Born in Floyd County, Virginia, to the late Ralph and Vera Markle, on June 2, 1941, she is also preceded by her brother, Larry Markle. Betty graduated from Christiansburg High School in 1959, a very accomplished athlete and a member of many school clubs. Betty served as a clerk for Norfolk Southern Railroad for 32 years before her retirement in 2006. She was a long-time member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Salem. Betty is survived by her children, Barry Holbrook and wife, Tanya, of Gothenburg, NE, and Deborah Weddle and husband, Mark, of Salem, VA; as well as her sister, Patricia Altizer and husband, Reggie of Christiansburg. Betty dearly loved her grandchildren, Samantha Weddle and Isaac Holbrook and adored her great-grandchildren, Landen, Hezekiah, Eleanor, and Jubilee. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 19, 2021, in the chapel of John M. Oakey and Son Funeral Home, Salem. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. The family would like to thank the staff at Joseph C. Thomas Assisted Living of Richfield and Kindred Hospice for their care. Service Details.
