Betty Jo Hartsel

Betty Jo Hartsel, 88, of Salem, Va., passed away on Monday, July 19, 2021. She was a great mom and grandma. Preceding her in death were her parents, Sidney Staples and Ruth Adelaide Wheeler Taliaferro; and sisters, Nadine Poff and Peggy Reynolds. Her surviving family includes her children, Gary Moore and wife, Pat, Clayton Hartsel and wife, Wendy, and Mike Hartsel and wife, Lynn Goetze; grandchildren, Jordan Moore, Matthew Moore and wife, Michelle, Michael Moore and wife, Ashley, Dallas Smith and husband, Thomas, Josh Hartsel and wife, Elle Mai Lee, and Jaime Hartsel; great-grandchildren, Marly Adkins, Khloe Hartsel, Charlie and Cassidee Moore, Nolan Scott Moore, Lane Smith; and several other family members. Special appreciation is expressed to Our Lady of the Valley for their loving care. Family members and friends may gather beginning at 1 p.m. on Saturday, August 7, 2021, in the John M. Oakey & Son Chapel in Salem. A memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions may be made to a humane society of your choice.
