Betty Smith Hall, 82, of Roanoke, passed away Sunday, December 23, 2012.
She was born March 26, 1930 in Salem, the eldest of five daughters of the late Harry and Willa Hodges. She was a dedicated wife and mother and was a lifetime member of Ridgewood Baptist Church, where she was active as a Sunday School teacher and involved in many church activities. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 59 years, Richard (Buddy) Hall, two sisters, Ruby Whitlock and Linda Shepherd, and by her grandson, Jason Hall.
Betty is survived by two sons, Sheldon Douglas (Pete) Smith and his wife Carolyn, Charles Henry Hall and his wife Barbara; two sisters, Joan Thomas and her husband Junior, Margaret (Maggie) McGuire and her husband Mike; five grandchildren, including special granddaughter, Tami Kuehn, her husband Al and daughters Allyson and Hannah, grandsons, Tommy Smith and his daughter Nicolle, Scott Smith and his wife Melissa, Shane Smith, and Brian Hall and his daughter Keelyn.
Betty will be missed by her family and friends at Ridgewood. She always had a twinkle in her eye and was ready with a joke to share, She was an excellent cook and loved card games with her family.
A graveside service will be held at 1PM, Thursday, December 27, 2012 at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Rev. Roy Kanode will officiate.
