Betty Jane Mahaffey Dagenhart, 85, of Salem, Va., went to her heavenly home on Wednesday, December 28th, 2022.
Betty was born on September 24th, 1937, in Welch, West Virginia, to the late Charlie and Edith Lucas Mahaffey. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Friend, and siblings, Lillian Mahaffey, Connie Allen, Pauline Meredith, Edward Mahaffey, Russell Mahaffey, Chester Mahaffey, and Wade Mahaffey.
Betty spent 25 years as the Director of Nursing at Community hospital and worked for numerous colleges in the area as an educator. She was also heavily involved in the choir, and other church functions at CommUNITY Church in Salem. One of the biggest things Betty liked to do, was work in her garden. She enjoyed both planting and admiring the beautiful flowers. Family was very important to her, and the time they spent together will be greatly cherished.
Those left here on earth to cherish her memory include her daughter, Cindi Anderson; sisters, Phyllis Beall, and Shirley Keane; grandchildren, Lindsay Anderson (Carter Wood), who was the apple of her eye Brad Powers (Lyndsey Onyett), Mitch Anderson (Nikki Attkinson), Matt Anderson, and Rick Anderson, Jr and his wife Elissa; three great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and special niece Sharon B. DAmore (John).
A service to celebrate Bettys life will be held on Saturday, January 28th at 2 PM, at CommUNITY church in Salem, with Pastor Tom McCracken officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior at the church.
