Bette Mounce Sosenko, 84, of Salem, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on Tuesday, September 11, 2012. She was born in Winston-Salem, NC and later resided in both Orlando, FL and Madison Heights, VA. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Her hobbies included completing crossword and word search puzzles as well as spending time with her beloved pets, especially the cockatiel named Gray Bird (Buzzard) that lived with her for 29 years. Preceding her in death were her parents, Lonnie and Thelma Mounce. Her surviving family includes her husband, Andrew Sosenko; daughter, Mary P. Sheppard and husband, Charles; grandchildren, Amy E. Nichols and fianc, Willie Furrow, Laura M. Blackwell and partner, Tara Outler, Jay C. Ritter and wife, Heather, and Debbie Thomas Gee and husband, Jeff; and 9 great-grandchildren. A service celebrating her life will be held on Friday, September 14, 2012 at 1 p.m. in the John M. Oakey & Son Chapel in Salem with Pastor Mike Gillikin officiating. Interment will take place at a later date in Orlando, FL.
