Bernice John "Bunny" Harless

Bernice Bunny John Harless, 97, of Salem, Virginia, went to be with our Heavenly Father on Wednesday, July 26, 2023. She was born on Thursday, November 12, 1925, and was preceded in death by her parents, Griff and Cleo Doosing John; her husband, Edwin Kelly Harless; and her four siblings, Griff John Jr., Bill John, Dotti Stewart, and MaryAnn Beagle. Bunnys passions in life included traveling with her husband and three children. A second home in Rodanthe, North Carolina, enabled her to enjoy years of surf fishing, beach combing, and day trips to Ocracoke. She was also fortunate to travel overseas on multiple occasions as well as enjoy thirty-seven adventures with Ed on Sunshine Bus tour excursions. She was a jigsaw puzzle junkie and a lover of all things chocolate. She was also a lifelong First United Methodist Church member in Salem, Virginia. Bunny will be incredibly missed by her children. She was an immaculate housekeeper who always had a porch full of ferns and back yard full of blooming daffodils, irises, and geraniums. She was a talented and resourceful cook and will be forever remembered for her raisin oatmeal cookies. Those left here on Earth to cherish her memory include her three children, David Harless (Tami) of Salisbury, NC; Paul Harless (Kathy) of Nashville, TN; and Janet Kubik (Mark Coleman) of Roanoke, VA. She also leaves behind six grandchildren (Ashton, Kaitlyn, Janson, Scott, Tom, and Brad) and eleven great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank Brookdale Salem, Brandon Oaks Rehab, Brandon Oaks Blue Ridge, and Good Samaritan Hospice for their exceptional care. A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 28, 2023, at 3 p.m. at the Abby at Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem, Virginia. Visitation with the family will begin at 2 p.m. - 3 p.m. at the Abbey.
