Bernard Lynn Smith

Bernard Bernie Smith, 69, of Roanoke, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, July 4, 2021. Bernie grew up in Bath County with his parents, Hayman and Edith Smith; brother Hayman Smith and sister Diane Smith. Bernie met the love of his life, Sheila, while in high school. It was love at first sight, and they supported each other every step of the way. Together, they had one child: Wendy (boyfriend, Matt). Bernie cherished every moment with Sheila, Wendy and grandson Lennox. He was a simple man who loved the country life and was loved by everyone who knew him. Bernie would give his last dollar to someone who was in need. He also leaves behind a mother-in-law, Victoria Saker; brother-in-law, Gabriel Saker; sisters-in-law, Susan Pauley (Lewis); Sandra Taylor (Daniel); Marie Saker; and Mary McInnis (Kenneth); host of nieces and nephews. A private celebration of Bernards life will be held by his devoted family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Kidney Foundation or a charity of your choice.
