Benjamin (Benny) Coy Daugherty, 67, of Salem, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 11, 2010. He was a veteran having served in the US Army. Professionally, he worked for Lucas Construction for 14 years as well as Wal-Mart for 5 years. He was preceded in death by his mother, Hilda Daugherty; sister, Frances D. Gaylor; and brother, David Daugherty, Jr. His surviving family includes his father, David Daugherty, Sr.; wife of 19 years, E. Deborah Daugherty of Salem; son, William C. Daugherty and wife, Natasha; daughter, Amy Daugherty; stepdaughter, Candace Long and husband, John; stepsons, Richard Kile and wife, Jenean, and David Webster; 13 grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Wayne Daugherty and wife, Brenda, Peggy Wertz and husband, Ferman, and Glenn Daugherty; many nieces and nephews; and his faithful companion, Duke. A visitation will be held in the John M. Oakey & Son Chapel in Salem on Monday, December 13, 2010 from 2 to 4 p.m. as well as from 6 to 7 p.m. After which, a funeral service will begin. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Bennys name may be made to either the Fort Lewis Volunteer Rescue Squad at 3915 West Main Street in Salem, VA 24153 or to Glenvar Baptist Church at 4804 Stanley Farm Road in Salem, VA 24153.
