Barnett Ray Beamer, 84, of Salem, VA, passed away on July 20, 2026. Born on July 29, 1941, he was the son of the late Raymond and Herma Beamer. Barnett graduated from Hillsville High School before earning his degree from Virginia Tech. A dedicated professional, he worked as a Right-of-Way Agent for the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) from his college graduation until his retirement in 2004. His commitment to his work was matched only by his devotion to his family and faith.

A loving husband and proud father, Barnett is survived by his wife of 60 years, Bonnie Beamer; daughters, Becky Swanson (Neil), Rae Fisher (Todd), and Terri Hill (Todd); and his cherished grandchildren, Maddox, Brynn, Jackson, Charlotte, Mahre, Kian, Ranger, and Heath. He is also survived by his sisters, Billie Jean Hill and Betty Semones, and brother, Frank Beamer (Cheryl).

Barnett was a man of many passions. He found joy in gardening, working puzzles and watching sports, especially when cheering on his beloved Virginia Tech Hokies or supporting his grandchildren in their athletic pursuits. A devoted fan of country music and an active member of Locust Grove United Methodist Church, Barnett's life was defined by kindness, hard work, and unwavering faith.

A celebration of Barnett's life will be held at Locust Grove United Methodist Church (3415 Locust Grove Lane, Salem, VA 24153) on July 25, 2026, at 1:00 PM. Following the service, family and friends are invited to gather in the Fellowship Hall to share memories. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to Locust Grove United Methodist Church.

Barnett's legacy of love and dedication will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. May his memory bring comfort to those who mourn his passing.
