Barbara Amorose Work Shelton, 78, of Salem, Virginia, passed away on Monday, November 18, 2024, after a fierce battle with cancer.


She worked as a school bus driver for Berean Baptist Christian Academy, a supervisor for the Home Shopping Network, a CNA for Richfield Nursing Home, and an assistant manager for Bacova. However, what she lived for was to adore, love, cherish, and nurture her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.


Preceding her in death were her parents, Guido Amorose and Nellie Wimmer; her first husband, Donald Work Sr.; her second husband, Dennis Shelton; and her granddaughter, Sarah Brungard.


Her surviving family includes her siblings, Thomas Amorose and Linda Picklo; her children, Sherri Brungard, Donald Work Jr. (Ann), Bill Work (Lanier), and Suzanne Miller (Matthew); her grandchildren, Rebecca Napier (Aaron), Mark Brungard Jr. (Julia Lindquist), Isaac Brungard, Christina Brungard, Haylee Brungard, Steven Work (Lea Ann Songer), Joshua Work, Lindsey Work (Uriah Miller), Brandon Work, Sybella Work, Carter Work, Timothy Shay (Erin Hannon), Matthew Shay, Hannah Miller (Zechariah Wooten), David Miller, and Sarah Miller; her great-grandchildren, Savannah, Ava, Austin, Tiffany, Noah, Makenzie, Cameron, Alivia, Layla, Brayden, Axton, and Jadon; and numerous step-children, step-grandchildren, and step-great-grandchildren.


The family wishes to thank close family, friends, and neighbors, Linda Work, Patsy Stewart, Adrienne Snead, Barbara Garnett, and Calvin and Barbara Williams for their love and support over the years.


A celebration of Barbara's life will take place on Friday, November 22, 2024, at the John M. Oakey & Son Chapel in Salem, Virginia. Visitation will begin at 12:30 p.m., with the service beginning at 2 p.m. Interment will immediately follow at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park in Roanoke, Virginia.
