Barbara Jean Saunders Overstreet

Barbara Jean Saunders Overstreet, 89, of Salem, Virginia, passed away on November 25, 2024. Born January 16, 1935, in Roanoke, Va., to the late Roscoe Ralph and Cora Bell Meador Saunders of Chamblissburg, Va., she is also preceded in death by her husband, Michael "Mickey" L. Overstreet; mother-in-law, Helen B. Overstreet of Salem, Va.; step-daughter, Tina O. Nelson of California; sisters, Marjorie Geraldine "Gerry" S. Trussler Trent of Vinton, Va., and Penny Ann S. Booth Kinder, of Roanoke, Va.; brother, Ralph Edward Saunders, of Chamblissburg, Va.; brothers-in-law, Houston Trussler, Jr. of Vinton, Va., and Raymond Trent of Florida; sister-in-law, Diane D. Ferrara, of North Carolina; niece, Sharon T. Perdue, of Salem, Va.; and close friend, Burcell Johnson, of Salem, Va.

Those left to cherish her memory are her sister, Hettie A. Saunders and partner, Stephen DeLaney, of Claremont, N.C.; brother, Roscoe Neal Saunders, of Chamblissburg, Va.; nieces and nephews, Jeffrey L. Trussler and wife, Lisa, of Raleigh, N.C., Brenda Trussler, of Raleigh, N.C., Ferris B. Booth and wife, Susie, of Calaway, Va., Michael W. Booth, of Goodview, Va., Christopher Saunders, of Moneta, Va., Lindsey S. Albert and husband, Joey, of Salem, Va., Kayla Pritchard, of Goodview, Va., and Kathryn Flemming and husband, Miles, of Smithfield, N.C., as well as special friends, Kim and Lisa.

Barbara grew up in the Chamblissburg area of Bedford County, Va. and attended Stewartsville High School and Roanoke College. She retired from General Electric in Salem. Barbara had such a giving spirit and generously donated to many charities. In honor of her giving nature, her family requests in lieu of flowers, that memorial donations be made to two of her favorite charities, St. Jude's Children's Hospitals and Samaritan's Purse .
