Barbara K. Allgayer
Barbara Kirk Allgayer, 71, of Salem, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 2, 2012.
She was born in Salem, a daughter of the late Arnold K. Kirk and Edith Caldwell Kirk and had been an area resident all of her life. She was a member of Fort Lewis Christian Church, was an avid video gamer, and enjoyed bowling, gardening, reading and dancing. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 42 years, Herbert G. Allgayer, Sr. who died June 14, 2011, and by a brother, Durward Kirk.
A loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend, she is survived by two sons, Jay Dempsey and his wife Gloria, and Herbert G. Allgayer, Jr.; five daughters, Debbie Weddle and her husband Michael, Tammie Reitnauer, Faye Janney and her husband Kenneth, Teresa Lyon and her husband Robert, and Sylvia Allgayer; four sisters, Virgie Jarrett and her husband Leon, Nettie McDaniel and her husband Joe, Eva Gordon and her husband Jack, and Robbie Francisco and her husband Clay, as well as a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 5 PM, Sunday, May 6, 2012 at Fort Lewis Christian Church. The Rev. Dr. Terry Elkins will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Fort Lewis Christian Church, 2931 W. Main St. Salem, VA 24153.
