Audrey Gayle Fish Pfeifer, 78, of Salem, Va., a place surrounded by the Blue Ridge Mountains, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 27, 2026.
She was born on January 19, 1948, in Canton, Ohio. After graduating from Canton Central Catholic High School, she went on to Kent State University where she studied art. Professionally, she was an office manager at Kent State University and later an office manager and merchandiser at an office supply and Hallmark store in Alliance, Ohio. Her church membership was held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Salem, Va. She had many interests with photography, art collecting and creating, the moon, trees, deer, and her beloved dachshund, Jake, among her favorites.
Audrey also had a small graphic arts business where she produced portrait work, signs, and murals. Her focus most recently turned to Mixed Media. She claimed that an open mind will see inspiration everywhere. That was simple to her, and she encouraged everyone around her to "create what makes your soul soar". Audrey, in her own words, described herself as, "...a romantic with a little bit of gypsy in me. I believe we have to make our own fate in this world in order to find the peace and happiness we desire."
Preceding her in death was her mother, Susan Gallagher; and brother, Patrick Gallagher.
Her surviving family includes her husband of nearly 30 years, Terry S. Pfeifer; children, Casey J. Fish and his wife, Amanda, Jennifer Eddy and her husband, John, and Douglas Pfeifer and his wife, Barbara; sister, Patricia Ellis and her husband, James; her furry friend who was like a child, Jake; and many special friends including Sue Hunter, Holly Hoff, Tricia Peery, and Donna Markol.
Audrey's family expresses sincere appreciation to the staff at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for the loving care and understanding given to her family.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, July 3, 2026, at the John M. Oakey & Son Chapel located at 305 Roanoke Boulevard in Salem, Va. A gathering for family and friends will follow at Mac & Bob's on Main Street in downtown Salem. The family has requested that those in attendance dress casually; shorts and a polo or button-down shirt are both acceptable and encouraged. She will be laid to rest privately at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions may be made to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church at 314 Turner Road in Salem, Va. 24153. Online condolences may be expressed at www.johnmoakey.com.
